By February 13, 2014 No Comments

Platinum price has grown added 0.5% bringing it to $1,391.25 an ounce and palladium has risen by 0.5% to $714.55 per ounce.

Probably the biggest Precious Metal news comes from Platinum firms set for more talks in an attempt to end strikes that have greatly reduced platinum production in South Africa will hopefully end shortly.

The effects of the strike are momentous with the strike costing employers $18 million per day!

It is hoped that the meeting which will be attended by independent mediators to discuss the strike that revolves around miners demanding a basic wage of more than double the current entry level salary.  Despite the mine companies offering a 7% rise, unions and their members have not agreed, leaving the mining companies accusing the unions of failing to compromise.

The current wage demands back to a violent mass wildcat strike in 2012 which resulted in 34 fatal shootings by the police.

Producers have stated the current strikes are likely to have cost the South African economy $360 million, the country accounts for 80% of the global platinum consumption.
